Yorkshire consultancy OHS, a leading independent health, safety and environmental management consultancy, are bucking the recessional trend in impressive fashion. The company has announced that after a rigorous tender procedure the Retail Development Division of the retailing giant Asda has become the latest major client to award them with a contract to provide provision of all health safety and environmental support services. OHS and Asda will work in direct partnership on the health safety and environmental portfolio which will be controlled from specifically defined and designated offices in Park Square Leeds. John Horsfall the Managing Director of OHS commented that as a result of years of experience and knowledge, gained in the health and safety industry, OHS is in a position to understand the justifiably demanding requirements of Asda and to successfully provide a team that can fulfill such demands. OHS have pledged to deliver to Asda the vision shared by both companies that of an ‘Incident and Injury Free Environment’.


Enviros has announced that it has been acquired by the leading global engineering, sciences and project delivery firm Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM). A sale and purchase agreement has now been signed and the transaction is expected to complete within the coming weeks.
 
Since 1996 SKM has completed 56 mergers and acquisitions which have been central to the firm’s strategy to grow with its clients and deliver the world’s leading skills locally.
 
Recent feedback from SKM clients indicated that almost half think that climate change is a significant short-term risk, with this concern increasing to seven in ten when a 10 year time frame is considered. This acquisition is an immediate response to client needs and expands SKM’s capabilities, with Enviros people bringing great skills in sustainable development, climate change and strategic consulting generally, and bolstering the firm’s European presence.

Allen & York have been recognised as one of the first 100 participants of the Climate Neutral Network (CN Net) an initiative led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).The UNEP has been established to promote global action and involvement in moving towards low carbon economies and societies. Allen & York recognise and understand the importance of protecting the environment and promoting best practice,  which led to the ‘greening’ of their offices.

Envirowise – a government initiative providing practical environmental advice for business – were brought in to offer guidance and identify further ways to improve their environmental performance. Waste to landfill, energy usage, water usage and transport were areas that were categorised to have significant environmental impact.

Kitsons Environmental Europe Limited has announced that they have been awarded RoSPA’s (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) prestigious Occupational Health and Safety Gold Award for the second year running.

The Gold Award, is an external accreditation offered to organisations that demonstrate a commitment to delivering and implementing strong health and safety management systems. The awards will be presented to Kitsons at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel on Wednesday 13th May. The ceremony will take place alongside Safety and Health Expo 2009, Europe’s leading Annual Health and Safety Exhibition.

David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager, said: “Kitsons have shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others. We hope other businesses and organizations to follow its lead and strive for continuous improvement in health and safety management.”

Lucion Environmental has secured a new Royal Navy order to survey twenty vessels, it was revealed recently. The contract, worth £100,000 to the Gateshead-based asbestos management company, will involve various vessels from the Royal Navy and the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

The order follows the successful completion of a previous Royal Navy contract by Lucion, environmentally cleaning the WWII vessel HMS Ramehead. The historic ship is now moored in Portsmouth Harbour where it is frequently employed by the Special Boat Service for various training exercises.

“We received high level praise from the Royal Navy for the job we did on HMS Ramehead which put us in the frame for the latest work,” said Lucion’s Commercial Manager Russell Exley.
